Harnessing Africa’s potential in organic agriculture for improved food security and sustainable livelihoods.
The overall objective of this project implemented between 2005 and 2009 and funded by Hivos was to create structures to improve smallholders’ livelihoods in sub-Saharan Africa through the development of organic agriculture.
The focus of the IFOAM Africa Office was to build a platform for networking in Africa and facilitate information flow between stakeholders in Africa and IFOAM International.
Objective 1: IFOAM’s African advocacy network on organic agriculture is coordinated on the continental level, enabling it to pro-act and react appropriately on upcoming issues.
Objective 2: Capacity building and strengthening of national movements are ensured.
Objective 3: Comprehensive information about the development of the organic sector in Africa is documented.
The IFOAM Africa Office is still operating today.
