8th İZMİR ORGANIC PRODUCTS FAIR in Turkey a success

The number of participants at the Gourmet Izmir Fairs 2017 increased to 460 from 361 and the number of visitors reached 19,650. The next meeting date has been set on the 9 – 12 May 2018.

Preparations for the next year are underway after the EKOLOJİ 8th Izmir Ecologic Products Fair, held under the title of “Gourmet Izmir” and 7th OLIVTECH Olive, Olive Oil, Dairy Products, Wine and Technologies Fair. The fairs will bring the participants and visitors together on 9-12 May 2018.

The firms who participated in the GOURMET IZMIR-7th OLIVTECH Fair with their product groups including olives, olive oil, milk and dairy products, wine, fermented products, bush, seed, fertilizer, bottle, bin package, manufacturing technologies, storage units and food analysis laboratories had successful business interviews. GOURMET IZMIR, the 8th EKOLOJİ Izmir, where control and certification institutions took part with certified organic products, attracted a lot attention due to the organic product range.

The GOURMET IZMIR-EKOLOJİ and OLIVTECH Fairs attracted 19,650 visitors this year, up from 17,630 people last year. As visitors from 28 countries conducted their business interviews, they also had the opportunity to participate in a rich activity program. 

Beside the domestic visitors, a great number of foreign purchasers from Lebanon, Macedonia, Uzbekistan, Serbia, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Serbia and Montenegro, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Germany, BAE, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Algeria, Morocco, Palestine, France, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Arabia, Tunisia, Ukraine and Jordan came to the fair.

460 participants including sector representatives from USA, Sweden, Italy, Libya and Greece took part this year in the fairs, an increase from 361 participants who opened booths last year. 

The “Regional Round Table Meeting of Organic Cotton” took place, where organic cotton production and consumption was supported and problems faced in organic production and the use of GMO were examined. About 150 sector representatives including brand managers from Afghanistan, Germany, Denmark, France, Ghana, South Africa, Netherlands, UK, Switzerland, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria and Pakistan attended the meeting. The platform, which has been held in Turkey for the first time, was succesful with many productive exchanges occuring throughout the day.

The results of the International Mario Salinas Quality Competition, considered as the most important competition of extra-virgin olive oil of the World, was declared in Turkey for the first time during the GOURMET IZMIR-OLIVTECH Fair.

12 Turkish olive oil brands were granted awards in the organization where the quality of Turkish olive oil was also awarded in the national category of the competition.

Sharing in the Sector 

Evaluations were done on “The Project of Organic Peninsula” initiated by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality with the target of “sustainable organic agriculture” which gathered the sector through various panels and symposiums.

Furthermore, the visitors tasted special menus using olive oil in the “Organic Restaurant” and had the opportunity to buy the products of participants in the “Healthy Market”.

Gourmet Izmir-Ekoloji Fair continues to contribute to the formation of a green nature by enlarging “The Ecology Forest” every year. The field of 20,000 square meters was planted in Kadifekale in 2015, 740 umbrella pines were planted in a field of 20,000 square meters in Evka 7 last year. This year the field was enlarged by 5,000 square meters during the fair and a further 250 umbrella pines have been planted.
