Greece to host the Second Agroecology Europe Forum

Agroecology Europe (AEEU), a European member association working to advance agroecology, will hold the Second Agroecology Europe Forum from Septemer 26-28, 2019 in Heraklion, Greece. The forum will bring together local farmers as well as representatives from non-governmental organizations, universities, and social organizations to exchange and reflect on bottom-up approaches to agroecology.

Date: September 26-28, 2019

Location: Technological Education Institute (TEI) in Heraklion, Crete, Greece

Structure: The forum will be interactive and transdisciplinary, combining different approaches and activity types to stimulate dialogue, exchange, and networking between stakeholders representing three main areas of agroecology: science, practice, and movement. The forum will include oral presentations, panel discussions, plenary sessions, field trips, and a general assembly. Additional poster sessions will also be arranged to foster additional networking and exchange. 

Scope: The Agroecology Europe Foum will seek to provide critical and constructive input for the European Agroecology agenda by addressing and answering the following questions:

  • How should the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) be structured to promote agroecology?
  • What local practices and policies exist within Europe to support land access for young farmers as well as first generation farmers?
  • What knowledge, both traditional and new, related to soil health and restoration, biodiversity conservation is available?

How to Participate

Call for Contributions: You are invited to submit a forum abstract! Your contribution should be submitted via the forum web form and may address a diversity of activities and topics related to the principles of Agroecology covering environmental, social, cultural, economic, and political dimensions. Forum organizers have generated the following preliminary list of topics: 

  • Agroforestry
  • Biodiversity-based agriculture
  • Educational and training
  • Framing Agroecological farming
  • Food and food systems
  • Policy in support of Agroecology
  • Territorial development 

The deadline to submit an abstract is Friday, April 15, 2019.

Abstracts selected for inclusion will be compiled into an abstract book, which will be distributed to participants at the event.
