This Technical Cooperation Project (TCP) aims at assisting Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar with these countries’ own efforts to promote organic agriculture. The project addresses the certification and marketing issues through the promotion of Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) in the participating countries.
Small-Scale Farmer Inclusion in Organic Agriculture Development through Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS)
The Food and Agriculture Oraganizaiton of the United Nations (FAO) takes a coordinating role. The governments themselves, and their NGO partners, handle the on-farm production matters while the project addresses the remaining issues – legislation and regulation, awareness raising and market linkages – with which governments are generally less familiar.
The role of IFOAM-Organics International refers to the following activities:
- Review of the national legal and regulatory environment for organic production and certification in the participating countries;
- Provide country-specific recommendations on the best possible strategies for implementation of PGS within these frameworks
- Prepare tailored training materials and conduct training of trainers for PGS development
- Establish an online platform for mapping and visibility of the PGS initiatives
The online platform was launched in October 2016, visit it here.
