Founded in 1972, IFOAM -  Organics International is a membership-based organization working to bring true sustainability to agriculture across the globe.

Our  food and farming systems currently face multiple challenges ranging from increasing hunger, climate change, and biodiversity loss to farmers and food workers not earning a decent income. The way we produce and consume food can either alleviate or exacerbate these conditions.

By joining IFOAM - Organics International, you are supporting our active participation in the farmers constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).  Here, we speak out on behalf of the organic food and farming community and raise awareness about the urgent need to make organic agriculture part of a climate change solution.

The Farmers Major Group was created to provide an inclusive space for all farmers and peasants from around the world to coordinate positions, statements and overall participation and engagement in UN processes related to sustainable development, in particular the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

Your membership also supports our work at the Committee on Food Security (CFS). The CFS is, at the global level, the foremost inclusive and evidence-based international and intergovernmental platform for food security and nutrition (FSN). We focus our advocacy efforts on agroecology and nutrition, taking part in relevant negotiations, working groups and in the Civil Society Mechanism (CSM) -  the largest international space for civil society organisations (CSOs) working to eradicate food insecurity and malnutrition -  and meeting country delegates to gain their support on these issues.

The support of our affiliates  helps us to raise awareness of initiatives such as the 4 per 1000 Initiative of which we are a consortium member.  This initiative aims to demonstrate that agriculture, and in particular agricultural soils play a crucial role with regard to food security and climate change. The ambition of the initiative is to encourage stakeholders to transition towards a productive, highly resilient agriculture, based on the appropriate management of lands and soils, creating jobs and incomes hence ensuring sustainable development.
