Every time you choose organic, you are supporting a way of farming that benefits people and the planet.
It is estimated that 95% of our food is directly or indirectly produced on our soils. Yet chemical farming practices are depleting them at an alarming rate. For organic farmers, soil fertility is a key ingredient to growing nutritious food. They don’t use chemicals that degrade soils but work with nature to build and maintain soil health and fertility.
Better for our soils, but many claim organic cannot feed the world.
We are already growing enough to nourish the world but about one third of the food produced is lost or wasted whilst 800 million people go to bed hungry. Poverty, not yield, is one of the root causes of hunger. What’s more, with increasing weather extremes, we need resilient farming systems that use resources wisely and are not reliant on environmentally harmful chemicals. Ramping up the current food production system with GM seeds drenched in chemicals will not change this. Going organic can.
