Nutrition in Mountain Agro-ecosystems Phase II (NMA II)

Implementing target countries: Nepal, India (Himalaya); Pakistan (Hindukush); Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan (Pamir and Tian Shan); Ethiopia (African Highlands); Peru, Ecuador (Andes)
In 2018, the NMA first phase has been successfully implemented and the second phase started in June 2018 until 2021. The first phase has established a platform of motivated rural services providers across 5 countries, Nepal, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ethiopia and Peru that reached more than 1500 users united in the global mountain agro eco systems action network (MAAN). The nutrition sensitive interventions implemented in each countries attracted the local governments, academia, businesses to pay more attention to nutrition from agriculture perspective. The political agenda started introducing nutrition sensitive agriculture as the key topic. And NMA started harvesting various experiences and lessons learned from the field that are eventually conveyed to national, and global discourse.
After two conferences conducted in Pakistan in 2016 and Nepal 2018 have united and strengthened the global partners in nutrition, local governments, businesses, scientists, civil society.
At the national and global levels the project partners with various national and international organizations in order to further convey the evidence based messages about nutrition sensitive agriculture to the national and global discourse.
The implementation of the Nutrition in Mountain Agro-ecosystems Project is mandated to IFOAM - Organics International with its consortium partners FiBL and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation.
National implementing agencies are: Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation in Nepal, Intercooperation in Pakistan, BioService Public Foundation in Kyrgyzstan, Institute for Sustainable Development in Ethiopia , IFOAM - Organics International in Peru, Helvetas Tajikistan in Tajikistan, Welthungerhilfe in India, Heifer International in Ecuador
