OFIA Summits


In the years leading to the OFIA Awards, the OFIA Secretariat and Committee organize annual innovation summits to explore the areas in organic agriculture in need of innovative solutions. They are also an opportunity to present past and present innovations to a large audience.

Sixth ofia summit

In 2019, OFIA partnered with the US Northeast Organic Farmers’ Association (NOFA) to hold the sixth Organic Farming Innovation Award (OFIA) Summit in Amherst, MA, USA. The summit was held in conjunction with NOFA’s annual Summer Conference at Hampshire College on August 10, 2019.

The summit had the thematic focus: Nurturing the Culture of Improvement in Organic Agriculture. The detailed program can be accessed here.

Fifth OFIA Summit

The fifth Organic Farming Innovation Award (OFIA) Summit was held on September 21, 2018 in  Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, Mindanao Island, Philippines in conjunction with the wider Organic Asia Conference. The summit drew special attention to the topic of ‘innovations’ in organic agriculture. For the full program, visit here.

The fourth OFIA Summit was held on the afternoon of November 11, 2016 in Okhla, New Delhi, India during Biofach India. The summit will have the thematic focus: Nurturing the Culture of Innovation in Organic Agriculture. The detailed program is here

The third OFIA Summit was held on October 2, 2015, during the Regional Conference on Marketing & Innovation in Organic Farming on October 2 -3, 2015 at the Organic Expo in Goesan County, Chungbuk Province of South Korea. The Summit will have the thematic focus on System Innovations in the Organic Agriculture sector. The keynote speakers will present concrete case studies highlighting large scale, system level innovations from Africa, Asia, and Europe with impressive uptake.

The second OFIA Summit was embedded in the fourth Latin American Congress on Agroecology in Lima in September 2013 http://www.socla-peru.com/. 250 participants of the 2nd OFIA Summit followed impressive presentations on how to create an innovative climate illustrated on success cases from around the world particularly from Cuba, Bolivia, Kenya and Korea.

First OFIA Sumit

The first OFIA Summit took take place on September 12, 2012 in Hamburg, Germany, during the 2nd IFOAM Organic Animal Husbandry Conference. The Summit shared innovative experience from around the world including the OFIA winner 2011 from Bangladesh and identified research priorities for organic livelihoods, that were summarized in the event declaration, which can be downloaded here.
