In Memory of Dr. H.R. Sharma (1955-2025)

We at IFOAM – Organics International deeply mourn the passing of Dr. Hans Raj Sharma on 1 November 2025.

Born on 16 January 1955, Dr. Sharma was a distinguished agricultural scientist and public servant. He served in the Department of Agriculture, Himachal Pradesh, with distinction, ultimately rising to the position of Additional Director of Agriculture. His outstanding contributions in the fields of soil and water management, irrigation development, and natural resources conservation left an indelible mark on the state’s agriculture landscape.

In addition to his government service, Dr. Sharma was a valued member of the Himalayan Research Group (HRG) Shimla. He also served as a Technical Committee Member of the Himalayan Agroecology Initiative (HAI), where he was a key scientist heavily involved in the policy analysis and drafting of the HAI Roadmap for over a year.

His passing is a great loss to the agricultural and development community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and pray for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
